What’s the difference and which one is right for me?
Raw Hemp Oil: The difference between CBDa and CBD
With so much attention surrounding CBD, you may be surprised to learn that CBD does not occur in high concentrations in Cannabis. What is predominant in the Cannabis plant, however, is CBDa, the raw form of CBD. CBDa (cannabidiolic acid) is the acidic forefather of CBD. Simply put, CBD begins as CBDa and, in the natural state, there is more CBDa in Cannabis than CBD. CBD oil in its rawest form is extracted from the plant using the C02 method; the oil is unaltered in any way.
With CBD and THC taking much of the limelight, it’s easy to overlook other effective and beneficial cannabinoids. Researchers have found that all components of the hemp plant work together to produce an effect greater than cannabinoids alone. This is known as the Entourage Effect.
Raw Hemp oil appeals to those who are interested in the benefit of whole plant consumption, also known as Full Spectrum.
Decarbed Hemp Oil: The Process of Decarboxylation
CBDa turns into CBD through a process called decarboxylation. Decarboxylation is a chemical reaction achieved by using heat. During decarboxylation, a carboxyl group (-COOH) is removed and carbon dioxide is released. It’s through this process that CBDa turns into CBD.
To create decarboxylated Hemp oil, raw Hemp oil is heated to convert CBDa into CBD, while maintaining a level of phytonutrients.
Decarboxylated Hemp oil appeals to those interested in the benefits of a whole plant extract, but are less concerned about consuming CBDa.
Filtered Hemp Oil: The Benefit of CBD
To create filtered Hemp oil, decarboxylated oil is refined to remove all plant matter. By removing all other plant components, the Hemp oil has a higher concentration of CBD ( from around 15% to about 25% ).
Filtered Hemp oil has the highest concentration of CBD, however, this variety does not benefit from the Entourage Effect.
Without any other plant components, filtered Hemp oil is suited for those who are solely interested in the benefits of CBD.
